Today I have enriched my life with the first few Greek phrases and it really felt like gaining a different vision to me. I got over the hurdle of learning new letters and it provided me with an insight into the Greek way of living. The way people express themselves, the kind of words they use to say certain things, all that reveals a sight behind the curtain of their mindset.
It is like Rita Mae Brown once said: "Language is the road map of a culture. It tells you where its people come from and where they are going."
My first writing attemps made me feel like I was in primary school again writing the alphabet for the very first time. No wonder the end result resembles the clumsy work of a 6-year-old:
A: καλημέρα
B: Γεια σας
A: Πώς είσαι;
B: μια χαρά. εσυ;
A: όλα καλά σας ευχαριστώ πολύ.
To close this with the words of Viriginia Woolf: "Language is wine upon our lips". And after all this hard work, I will open a well-deserved bottle of Greek wine and enjoy letting my mind wonder to far away places...
