Not having to work this afternoon gave me the chance to go for a walk through Mili gorge, just a few kilometers south of Rethymnon. After some internet research, I went by myself for the first time and despite my bad sense of orientation, I found the entrance of the gorge immediately and started my very own adventure.
Although the beginning brought back painful memories of Samaria from last friday, the two gorges couldn't have been more different. I was impressed by the richness of the landscapes but the deserted ghost towns were quite eerie in the beginning.
In the first ruin, I was still scared to enter, not knowing what to expect in terms of animals or ghosts :) .
After the first one though, my spirit of research and the urge to discover were inspired and I was ready to explore the ghost town with all its ruinous houses, bridges and water mills: I looked behind every door, walked into every room, some still having roofs, some covered with trees, ivy and other plants and I felt like walking in the scenery of a movie.
The surroundings fired my imagination and I fantasized about the history of this place without even knowing it. But for some reason the walls and little items I found on the way just told me their own fateful story...
I also walked by three churches on the way, one with a little graveyard, the other one built right into a rock and the third one at the end of my hike where I returned back up to my car.
The little taverna on the way which had a beautiful view did also serve very delicious food and was welcoming to have a rest after the hike.
All in all, I have to say it was a nice feeling to do something on my own that helped me getting my mind off things as well as to relax a little bit.
amaaaazing pictures!!!!! :)
